POSADA MIMOSA wants your stay in Costa Rica to be as enjoyable as possible. Most of our visitors like to get out and about and independently explore the many interesting places within a one or two hours’ drive. We can put you in touch with tour organizers, arrange a car and driver and help you plan your itinerary. Some recommended day-tours which you can do from our base on your own at your leisure. PACIFIC BEACHES (Esterillos, Jacó, Tambor)
Costa Rica offers a choice of idyllic and romantic hideaways located on the coast as well as in the interior which make perfect extensions to our escorted tours. The best beaches in Costa Rica are on the Pacific Coast.

 

POAS VOLCANO, GRECIA & SARCHI Handicrafts

The Volcan Poas National Park is one of the most visited protected areas in the country. The ride there is scenic and pleasant, and since it’s only 47 kilometers away from San José, many local and foreign visitors flock to the park, especially on weekends. The La Paz waterfall, which is only twenty minutes away from the park, is the most photographed waterfall in all of Costa Rica. Visitors to the park won’t want to miss out on it. On your way to Poas, stop at Restaurant
Las Lluvias where you can fish for your own trout!  

 

 

LA PAZ WATERFALL GARDENS

This spectacular spot is about 20 mins from Poas Volcano. It includes both Cloud and Rain Forests, five magnificent waterfalls 
with nine viewing platforms. Well-built trails to wander through at your own pace. It claims to have the largest Butterfly observatory in the world. 
 

 

Tour "Los Amigos de las Aves"

After starting with only three birds, they now have bred 300 and have released 40 scarlet macaws in three locations around Costa Rica. They have had a 93% survival rate since they started in 2002. The organization also takes in abandoned smaller birds.

ZOO AVE (Bird Zoo) La Garita

The biggest bird reproduction center in Central America, Zoo-Ave breeds and rehabilitates birds, reptiles, and mammals before reintroducing them to nature. Visitors can see 100 species of birds, including quetzales, falcons, and owls, plus some playful monkeys and crocodiles.

 



 

 

LOS ANGELES CLOUD FOREST RESERVE

This 800-hectare reserve provides the same experience as Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve without the crowds or the quetzals. The reserve is part of the Villablanca finca, a cattle ranch owned by former president Rodrigo Carazón. It begins at 700 meters’ elevation and tops out at 1,800 meters (when the clouds clear you can see Volcán Arenal).
 

 

THE WORLD OF SNAKES (on the road to Grecia)

Open-air-exhibition with snakes from all over the world. Learn details about the different Costa Rican species. Giant snakes, poisonous snakes, harmless pets and rarities. We offer guided tours in different languages (English, Spanish and German) with information on biology and behavior Information of the breeding programs of endangered species. ARENAL VOLCANO

The Arenal Volcano is the only volcano in Costa Rica constantly active since it woke up after 400 years with the big 1968 eruption producing huge ash columns, explosions & glowing red lava almost every day. This country is about beaches, rainforest and the spectacular Arenal.

CARTAGO, LANKASTER GARDENS & OROSI VALLEY

The Orosi Valley, southeast of Cartago and visible from the top of Irazú on a clear day, is generally considered one of the most beautiful valleys in Costa Rica. The Reventazón River meanders through this steep-sided valley until it collects in the lake formed by the Cachí Dam.
 



 


SAN GERARDO DE DOTA (for excellent Quetzal watching)

TICO WALKS:

Historical and architectural tour of downtown San Jose reveals some hidden treasures which are little known to most visitors. It takes two and a half hours and costs only $10. Tours leave from in front of the Teatro Nacional at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday or Sunday. Group tours can also be arranged by contacting buenpaso@racsa.co.cr

 

ART TOURS:

Experience Costa Rican Art and Culture by visiting artists' studios on a day tour or joining a week long painting/drawing expedition with artist Jan Yatsko. These are highly recommended tours which gives the visitor a unique and fascinating glimpse into Costa Rican cultural life. RECOMMENDED RESTAURANTS

Most restaurants in our area are typically Costa Rican. Do not expect sophisticated European or North American décor or ambiance, you will find that close to San José. Most of our clients have given us good reports of a half dozen local restaurants within a 15 - 30 min drive.
