Our Bed & Breakfast rooms are part of a beautifully restored Costa Rican farmhouse originally built in 1976.We also have cabins and suites. The farm (finca) was part of a larger property owned by Mincho & Tuto Salas who were the first people to settle in our small village of Rincon de Salas which is named after them. The farm  was later divided into two properties one of which is now Posada Mimosa. There were three other owners before Tessa & Martin bought it in 1994 and started their B&B business.  We subsequently renovated the B&B guest wing, added all the other buildings on the property, built the swimming pool and planted all the lush tropical gardens.

YES, WE’RE “GREEN” !

POSADA MIMOSA has been practising sustainable tourism since 1994, long before it became the “in” thing to do. We use solar energy to provide hot water, we have no dryers for our laundry preferring the sun’s energy instead. We use organic products on our lush tropical gardens, fruit trees, and in our septic tanks; our own well supplies an abundance of water; we plant trees, we make our own compost and recycle our garbage; use low energy light bulbs; use cardboard boxes instead of plastic bags to bring home our groceries; employ Costa Ricans from the local community and give donations for local projects. We encourage sugar cane farmers not to burn but to go organic. Indeed, we are “green” in every sense of the word.

 GETTING TO COSTA RICA
ATTENTION CANADIANS!

Travelling through the United States is becoming increasingly difficult. Frequent flight delays, cancellations and stops, excessive security, lost luggage and lack of service all add up to a nightmarish experience. Even though it costs more, we recommend Air Canada's direct flights from Toronto (5 hours) or Costa Rica's national airlines LACSA AND TACA. They offer courteous service and yes, they feed you! At the moment they have one stop in El Salvador where you changes planes. It is a great little airport and is a very easy changeover. Check their website Lacsa.com for up to date information.

LOCATION

Posada Mimosa, 20 minutes west of the San José international airport, is situated on 17 acres overlooking, sugar cane and coffee fields with a spectacular view over the central valley. We are conveniently located near the lovely town of Grecia. It is only five minutes from the Inter-American Highway, 40 minutes from San José and 90 minutes from the closest Pacific beaches. Sarchí, Zarcero, Irazú and Poás volcanoes, national parks and many other interesting places are within easy driving distance. Posada Mimosa is 750 meters above sea level. The climate is ideal. The nights are cool enough to need a blanket. We do NOT need air conditioning or heating year round.  Many of our guests have suggested that our location is ideal for three or six days' relaxation or day trips before embarking on more strenuous pursuits. Our clientele is mostly adults with a genuine interest in and respect for Costa Rica's natural diversity.
Families are welcome.

TRANSPORTATION

CAR RENTALS:  RELIABLE, LATE MODEL CARS, QUALITY SERVICE, COMPETITIVE PRICES.

The best way to get the most out of Costa Rica is by car. We can help you rent a car at competitive prices. Our guests can be picked up by the rental car agency at the airport or they will deliver the car to our property and pick it up at the end of  your  trip. The convenience of drop-off and pick-up is an additional service which smoothes the way for registered guests. If you prefer not to rent a car, we have an English-speaking driver ready to take you wherever you want to go at reasonable prices. There is a regular bus service to Grecia and taxis are plentiful and cheap.

MONEY  $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Although much progress has been made on the technological front in Costa Rica, in many ways it is still a third world country.  Visitors should be aware that travelling with only a credit card is not enough.
Before leaving home, be sure to bring some US dollars in cash. Yes, there are ATM machines but they do not always work. They can eat your card and they issue limited amounts of cash. Travellers checks are accepted at Banco Nacional and HSBC Bank in Grecia. When making a reservation with us, please pay close attention to our payment policy. WE ACCEPT PAYMENT IN US DOLLARS, or COLONES CASH BUT CAN ACCEPT VISA AND MASTERCARD.
